Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, composed primarily of Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂).

Unlike the large, well-formed crystals of Clear Quartz or Amethyst, Chalcedony forms as an incredibly fine intergrowth of microscopic Quartz and Moganite crystals. These crystals are so small that even under magnification they appear as tightly woven fibres rather than individual crystal faces.

This unique structure gives Chalcedony its characteristic silky appearance and soft translucency.

Most Chalcedony begins its journey in cavities within volcanic rocks.

As silica-rich groundwater slowly moves through these spaces, microscopic layers of silica are deposited one upon another.

I love its delicate colours.

There is something incredibly calming about it. It reminds me of looking up at the sky just after sunrise, before the day has really begun. It never feels loud or overpowering. It simply sits there, quietly beautiful.

I remember one day when a travelling crystal supplier arrived with a huge new shipment of Druzy Chalcedony.

He unpacked them and laid them across a table outside in the sunshine.

The colour is created by human craftsmanship, while the remarkable Druzy crystal texture beneath remains entirely natural.
