Rarity

Fairly common as an ornamental mineral. Fine royal-blue material with minimal white veining is less common and highly prized.

Food & Drink Contact

Sodalite is a stable silicate mineral. Brief contact with clean water will not normally affect the stone, however there is no demonstrated benefit to preparing crystal-infused drinking water. Natural specimens may also contain inclusions or associated minerals that are not always visible.

Sunlight

Stable under normal display conditions. Prolonged exposure to intense sunlight may gradually dull the colour of some specimens over many years.

Health & Safety

Safe to wear and handle. Dust produced during cutting or grinding should not be inhaled. Professional lapidaries use water-fed equipment and appropriate dust extraction when working Sodalite.

Common Treatments

Most Sodalite is untreated. Dyed imitations and reconstructed material are occasionally encountered and should always be disclosed.
