Not only the story of the stone, but the story of the setting, the hands it has passed through, and the quiet sense that this pendant has already lived a life before becoming what it is now.

At the centre is a genuine Gaia Stone, also known as Green Obsidian, set as a smooth polished cabochon. The colour is extraordinary — deep, rich, glassy green, with that almost glowing quality that Obsidian can have when the light moves across its surface.

The stone sits in a reclaimed antique Afghani sterling silver setting, detailed with beautiful traditional-style silverwork. The setting has weight, character and presence, but it does not feel overdone. It feels like an old treasure that has been carefully reimagined.

The Story Behind This Piece

This pendant began with the setting.

I was given a small number of genuine sterling silver settings by a Lapis Lazuli merchant in Afghanistan. He had received them from a family member, and they originally held paste stones. There was something about them that felt too beautiful, too full of history, to leave unused or forgotten.

So I carefully searched for stones that would fit each setting properly — not just in size, but in feeling. This Gaia Stone fit this setting exactly.

There is something quite special about that. I always love when a piece feels less like it was forced into being and more like it slowly found its way into the right form. The antique silver setting already carried its own story, and the Green Obsidian brought a new life to it. Together, they became something that feels old and new at the same time.

The result is a pendant that feels collected, meaningful and quietly powerful. It has the soul of something reclaimed, but the presence of something newly awakened.

Meaning & Symbolism

Gaia Stone, often known as Green Obsidian, is a particularly beautiful form of glassy green Obsidian. Obsidian itself has long been associated with grounding, protection, truth and deep inner reflection, while the green colour brings a softer feeling of renewal, heart energy, growth and connection to the earth.

To me, The Green Flame Relic feels like a piece for someone who is learning to return to themselves. Not in a rushed way, but in a grounded, honest way. It feels connected to the heart — not in a sugary or overly romantic sense, but more like the heart when it becomes strong again. The heart when it has remembered its own wisdom.

There is also something beautiful about placing a new stone into an old setting. It feels symbolic of renewal — of taking something that already had history and allowing it to become part of a new story.

About the Design

This piece has been designed in-house by Jennifer as part of the Enchantress Designs jewellery collection.

Every gemstone is chosen with intent — not simply because it is beautiful, but because of the feeling it brings, the symbolism it holds, and the way it completes the story of the finished piece.

For this pendant, the Gaia Stone was chosen because it fit the reclaimed antique sterling silver setting exactly, both physically and energetically. The setting came from Afghanistan and originally held a paste stone. By replacing it with genuine Green Obsidian, the piece has been given a new life while still honouring the character and craftsmanship of the original silverwork.

This is part of what I love about reclaimed settings. They already carry history. They have texture, detail and memory. When paired with the right gemstone, they become something more than simply restored. They become reimagined.

Ways to Wear It

This pendant is beautiful worn on a simple sterling silver chain where the detail of the setting and the depth of the green stone can be properly appreciated. It would sit beautifully with black, cream, white, charcoal, deep green, indigo, linen, velvet or soft natural fabrics.

It has enough presence to be worn as a feature piece, but because the shape is classic and balanced, it can still be worn in a very natural, everyday way if you love jewellery with meaning and history. The Gaia Stone itself may show natural variation in colour, depth, polish and internal character. Its rich green tone and glassy surface are part of what makes it so striking.

Care Instructions

Please treat this pendant with care, especially because the setting is antique and has been reclaimed. Avoid dropping, knocking or bending the pendant, and keep it away from harsh chemicals, perfume, hairspray, chlorine and prolonged moisture. Apply perfume and lotions before putting your jewellery on, and allow them to dry first.

After wearing, gently wipe with a soft dry cloth. Store separately in a pouch or jewellery box to help protect both the polished Gaia Stone and the antique sterling silver setting.
