Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral, forming when manganese-rich fluids circulate through cracks and cavities within the Earth's crust.
Unlike Rhodonite, which commonly forms during metamorphism, Rhodochrosite most often develops in hydrothermal veins, where hot mineral-rich water slowly cools and deposits crystals over thousands or even millions of years.
It may also form within sedimentary manganese deposits and inside cavities where mineral-rich groundwater has deposited layer upon layer of carbonate.

For me, Rhodochrosite is one of those stones.
Over many years, I have found myself returning to Rhodochrosite when working with people who have experienced deep emotional pain, particularly those carrying the lasting effects of intimate physical trauma.
Again and again, I have watched people choose this stone without prompting.
Again and again, I have seen conversations become gentler, emotions begin to soften and, over time, some people describe feeling more able to let go of old hurts, betrayal, shame, fear or phobias that had weighed heavily on them.
Can I say with certainty that it was the Rhodochrosite?
No.
People heal in their own time, in their own way and for many different reasons.
Perhaps they had simply reached a place where they were ready to release what they had been carrying.
Perhaps holding something beautiful while giving themselves permission to reflect became part of that journey.
Or perhaps there is still more for us to learn about the remarkable chemistry and mineralogy of the natural world.
I don't pretend to know the answer.
What I do know is what I have witnessed.
